The World IoT Top 500 Summit 2024 held in Beijing in mid-July unveiled its list of the leading companies in the Internet of Things industry. These leaders include companies like Qualcomm QCOM , Microsoft MSFT , IBM IBM , Siemens SIEGY , Huawei, CASIC, and more. The Haier Group returned to the Top 10 once again. Origin Quantum also joined the list this year.

This is the eighth year for this list. It is becoming one of the influential and important rankings in the IoT space. Many communications companies, large and small are in this IoT space.

He Xuming, chairman of the WIOTC executive committee, said this summit is becoming a leading global indicator of IoT in the digital economy and innovation, recognizing digital economy enterprises worldwide.

I am told one of the key reasons for this summit was to increase cooperation between business and government. This is done while recognizing top performers in both IoT and in digital technology. Attendees were worldwide government officials, international organizations, businesses and associations from more than 40 countries.

The theme of this year’s summit was “An Intelligently Interconnected World for a Win-Win Future.” It was focused on innovation in the IoT industry segment.

Internet of Things is no longer getting the same kind of attention as it did when it was brand news. That being said, it does remain one of the hot-button, key building blocks of tomorrow for every person, every company and every country, worldwide.

IoT is one of the big growth opportunities moving forward. There will be plenty of home runs and many strike outs, but IoT is important, it will continue to grow and should not be ignored.

We do not know for sure at this early stage which new technological advancements will lead going forward, or which companies will do so. On the other hand, we do know this will remain a growing segment.

Investing in this segment requires keeping up with where it came from, where it is today and where it is heading tomorrow.

In fact, GSMA Intelligence said IoT connections will continue to grow. It will reach around $25 billion, globally by next year. This is an increase from the $10.3 billion in 2018.

That shows IoT is a rapidly growing segment. It also shows how important IoT is. This is definitely one of the hot button areas for investors, workers and the media to keep our eyes on moving forward.
