By having everything we could possibly need or want at our fingertips, it's very easy to take the technology that makes this possible for granted. While smartphones and touchscreen desktops, laptops and tablets are praised as a whole, touchscreen capabilities completely changed the way one interacts with its devices. However, have you ever wondered how touchscreen technology is made possible? UniPixel (UNXL), a pre-production stage company, is the unsung hero of the mobile and interactive market.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Uni-Pixel is in the film business. However, not in the traditional moving pictures kind of film business. According to its official website, the company’s XTouch technology, a flexible sensor film, enhances and protects its clients’ touchscreen and flexible electronics products.

Along with its sixteen issued patents and 58 patent applications covering key areas in the flexible electronics market, the company provides other innovative solutions, including:

  • Copperhead, a transparent conductive and flexible electronic film.
  • Diamond Guard, a hard coat resin and optical film.

The new year, so far, has been very good to UniPixel. The company, whom is up 18.10% today, has revealed a number of positive developments in recent months. Earlier this month, the company announced that an existing leading PC manufacturing customer will feature its XTouch and Diamond Guard products in two new 2-in-1 convertible programs.

"These are the third and fourth program awards from this customer already in 2016,” said Jeff Hawthorne, President and CEO of UniPixel. “This customer is new to us in 2016 and we are delighted with their confidence in the performance of our technology and our ability to deliver the best 2-in-1 experience in the industry. We are pleased with the traction we are gaining in the market with our highly differentiated products.”

Also, in March, the company revealed promising Q4 and 2015 year end operational and financial results. Highlights from these reports include:

  • Acquiring touch sensor technology assets.
  • Acquiring a manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
  • Opening Taiwan sales office.
  • Shipping XTouch production orders.
  • Completing public offering in Q4, resulting in gross proceeds of $8.2 million.
  • 2015 revenue totaling $3.8 million, compared to $0 according to 2014 data.

Furthermore, since the new year, UniPixel has received three new orders from three separate clients. "We made substantial progress during 2015 to position UniPixel as a legitimate competitor in the touchscreen market,” said Hawthorne. “Everything that has been accomplished during 2015 sets the stage for us to have improved operational and financial results in 2016."

In one device, there are many innovations that come together in order to make our lives easier and more productive. UniPixel is one of these companies that is on a mission to provide the technology that makes our interactive world possible. With a solid performance in 2015 and client orders coming in, the company is positioned to lead innovation in the touchscreen market.
