Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE), parent of the New York Stock Exchange, announced the launch of the Cryptocurrency Data Feed in conjunction with Blockstream, a leader in blockchain technologies and financial cryptography. The new data feed from ICE Data Services offers real-time cryptocurrency price and order book data and will initially include data from more than 15 global cryptocurrency exchange venues.

According to Alexander Osipovich of The Wall Street Journal, the new data feed is “the latest sign that the once-fringe market for cryptocurrencies is being taken seriously by Wall Street.”

The Cryptocurrency Data Feed will be available on the ICE Consolidated Feed, with initial coverage of six digital currencies:

  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • Litecoin
  • Dash
  • Ripple
  • Bitcoin Cash

The service, which will be available this quarter, will capture nearly 80% of crypto-exchange trading volume for the most active currency pairs. All crosses are captured and normalized which creates a unique sequence number, details on where the trade took place, and other relevant order book data such as quantity, price, currency and timestamp.

  • Six digital currencies against USD and other major currencies
  • Calculated crosses between the digital currencies
  • Over two years of Bitcoin (XBT) history
  • XBT/USD averages over 200,000 updates per day
  • In excess of 600,000 updates per day across all digital pairs
  • NYXBT – NYSE Bitcoin Index
  • Comprehensive Level 1 and 2 futures pricing

With the broad array of cryptocurrencies and exchanges, and given the price variances between exchanges, it’s critical that investors have a comprehensive source of pricing information. We’re excited to work with Blockstream, which is focused on bringing institutional-quality data to the market, and we look forward to expanding the feed and our strategic relationship with Blockstream over time.

– Lynn Martin, President and COO, ICE Data Services

The Cryptocurrency Data Feed is a multi-asset and multi-venue data feed capturing the majority of cryptocurrency exchange trading volume for leading cryptocurrencies measured against the US$ and other major currency pairs. Blockstream works with cryptocurrency exchanges around the world and consolidates the disparate data sets into a normalized and standardized data source that includes real-time and historical trade information, as well as other relevant order book data such as quantities, prices, currencies, and timestamps. This is designed to enable ICE Data Services’ customers to receive global market representative trading data in a real-time feed with high quality information.

At Blockstream, we build technologies that help cryptocurrency to reach its full potential. Our work on the Cryptocurrency Data Feed is providing improved cryptocurrency market data through information sharing via our open, collaborative working relationships with cryptocurrency exchanges around the world. We are excited to work closely with ICE and cryptocurrency exchanges globally to deliver this data service that we believe will significantly reduce the barriers to broader trading of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
