U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday on continued weaker than expected economic data; ADP reported that the private sector only added only 38,000 jobs in May when 190,000 was expected. The national manufacturing ISM came in at 53.5 versus 60.4 in April. New orders fell to 51.0 versus 61.7 in April. Construction Spending for April rose by a less than expected 0.4% when 1.0% was the consensus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded as low as 12,282 with the NASDAQ as low as 2768 in the final half hour of trading.

Asian stocks were mixed on Wednesday with the Nikkei 225 up 0.3% to 9,720 and the Hang Seng down just 0.2%. European stocks drifted lower following weaker than expected US private sector jobs data. The FTSE 100 ended their session down 1.0% with the DAX and CAC 40 also down 1.0%. The yield on the 10-Year US Treasury note is trending below its 200-day simple moving average at 3.092 percent and traded as low as 2.950 on Wednesday. Comex gold is consolidating the decline from the all-time high of $1577.4 the Troy ounce on May 2nd to $1462.5 set on May 5th. Gold traded higher on Wednesday to $1551.6, which is another sign of risk aversion. Nymex crude oil fell below its 50-day simple moving average at $105.47 on May 5th and tested $94.63 on May 6th. Oil traded within this range on Wednesday, down from $103.31 per barrel to $99.91. The euro traded down from 1.4457 to 1.4328 on Wednesday as weak stocks dislocated somewhat to a weak dollar. On Tuesday, the Dow Industrial Average rallied 128 points to 12,570 up 8.6% year to date. The NASDAQ gained a solid 38 points to 2835 up 6.9% year to date.
