As of late April 2014, Pinterest announced that 30 billion items have been pinned and 750 million boards created on the site and through the Pinterest app. Promoted Pins is a recently launched paid tool for marketers – its first paid test involves a number of brands in different industries. Among the most notable are Banana Republic, Expedia.com, General Mills and Target. At the end of last year, Shareaholic, a social plugin service that collects data from 200,000 publishers and reaches 250 million monthly unique visitors, stated that Pinterest has already surpassed Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and Reddit in driving traffic to websites. Lastly, Pinterest was named an 2014 AlwaysOn Global 250 Top Private Companies winner and featured on 2014 CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list.
