While it’s certainly no secret that critically reviled movies can soar at the box offices (hello, Transformers!) critic’s opinions still hold a lot of sway, and not just aesthetically. Critical consensus can often tear down a film, or conversely, bring attention to an otherwise overlooked gem.

Speaking of Transformers though, it would be wrong to assume that when making their decision, movie critics assemble together to form some kind of critical singular superbeing, one that votes with a single THUMBS UP or THUMBS DOWN on every feature. The critics are special and unique snowflakes, each with their own opinions. While “critical consensus” can often make or break a film, the critics do have their own individual voices – and that includes some quite notable outliers.

This infographic from Voactiv looks at the most prominent movie critics currently reviewing films, and then puts them against the critical consensus as reported by aggregator Metacritic. While there are some qualms to be had about the chart – like that it makes the Rotten Tomatoes model of classifying reviews from a black and white “liked/disliked” binary – it does provide an interesting look intot he individual critics who contribute to a film being “critically reviled,” “critically lauded”… or somewhere in between.
