Vail Resorts reports 1Q loss

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (AP) _ Vail Resorts Inc. (MTN) on Thursday reported a loss of $28.4 million in its fiscal first quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Broomfield, Colorado-based company said it had a loss of 71 cents. Losses, adjusted for pretax gains, were $2 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $1.83 per share.

The ski resort operator posted revenue of $220.9 million in the period, which beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $195.2 million.

Vail Resorts shares have climbed 37 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 37 percent in the last 12 months.
