Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Proves You Can’t Go Wrong With Chocolate

Destiny A. Lopez  |

Chocolate, simply put, is delicious; and, everyone deserves a bit of decadence every so often. However, between local-storefronts, at-home bakers, and Instagram businesses who are advertising their candy wares, there’s an overwhelming amount of options in the chocolate department. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Inc. (RMCF), a manufacturer of an extensive line of premium chocolate candies and other confectionery products, is one example of an established confectioner that should be on one’s chocolate bucket list.

Incorporated in 1982, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is an international franchisor, confectionery manufacturer and retail operator in the United States, Canada and the United Arab Emirates, producing 300 chocolate candies and other confectionery products. Its proprietary recipes are developed primarily by its master candy maker, and are sold primarily in factory outlet malls, tourist areas, regional malls and street fronts.

Earlier this month, the company announced that its Board of Directors has declared a fourth quarter cash dividend of $0.12 per common share outstanding. Furthermore, Rocky Mountain has revealed a number of developments, including:

  • Opening two domestic Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory stores and six international licensed stores during the most recent quarter.
  • U-Swirl, Inc. (SWRL), a non-wholly owned subsidiary in which the company owns a 39% interest, opening one self-serve frozen yogurt café and one international licensed café during the third quarter of FY2016.

Furthermore, the Colorado-based company announced that its Licensee in the Republic of the Philippines will open its first Rocky Mountain Chocolate Store in the nation's capital city of Manila. "We are delighted to announce the continued expansion of our international franchising initiative with the opening of the first store in the Philippines by our Licensee, Royal Bear Confectioneries, Inc.," said Bryan Merryman, CEO of Rocky Mountain Chocolate. "We commenced our international expansion program approximately three and a half years ago and have since entered into Licensing Agreements in Japan, South Korea, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and now the Philippines.”

Did someone say candied apples, dipped marshmallows, and chocolate dipped strawberries? Normally, I’m a chocolate caramel chew kind of girl; but, I have no problem broadening my confectionary horizons. With hundreds of delicious product offerings that are now available all over the world, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is one company to keep an eye on.

“We continue to evaluate licensing opportunities in a number of additional countries, said Merryman,“ and expect international activities to play an increasing role in our growth in coming years."
