WASHINGTON, June 26 -- Rep. Tom Reed, R-N.Y. (23rd CD), issued the following news release: Tom Reed announced good news for Owego's Lockheed Martin on Thursday. Reed was notified by the Air Force who confirmed Sikorsky, in conjunction with Lockheed's Owego facility, is being awarded a contract for the Air Force's Combat Rescue Helicopter (CRH) program. Lockheed will play a pivotal role in the engineering, manufacturing and development phase of the helicopter replacement program. "Once again, our local workforce in Owego at Lockheed Martin is recognized as vital to the operation of some of our country's most high-tech, complex missions," Reed said. "Hundreds of manufacturing and engineering jobs sustained by this contract will ultimately support the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. With world-class quality and unmatched employee talent, it's no wonder why people keep turning to the Owego facility to get the job done." The United States Air Force (USAF) is replacing its aging and outdated rescue helicopter fleet with a new, modernized fleet designed specifically for combat search and rescue. The CRH-60 will replace the USAF's aging HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopter. Lockheed will be working with Sikorsky to install the internal computers and sensors for the combat helicopters. The two companies have a strong history of working together - just last month, Lockheed and Sikorsky jointly received the Presidential Helicopter Replacement Program contract.
