 Unprecedented new report to argue time is running out and public policy may be barrier to success – media conference in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, July 8, 2014 /CNW/ – The Liberal government of Christy Clark has long been a booster of transformative benefits of LNG export to the BC economy.  With the support of the federal government for these plans, the future for BC’s LNG exports seems positive.

But is it?

Media are invited to a media conference for the release of a ground-breaking report by The School of Public Policy that takes an in-depth look at the challenges Canada faces if it wants to enter the Asia-Pacific LNG market. The authors point to issues like competition with the newly gas-rich United States, dangers from proposed provincial tax policy and a troubling lack of regulatory and policy coordination.  The report provides the policy prescriptions necessary to ensure Canada’s competitive role in the global LNG market. But, as the authors stress, this won’t be an easy task. And time is running out.

The media conference will be held immediately in advance of a luncheon where the report’s authors will release the report to business and government stakeholders in British Columbia. 

A report of this depth and detail on the LNG market and opportunities for export has not been done before.
