Mayor Hancock Leads Trade Mission to London as Part of Norwegian's Inaugural Flight From London/Gatwick to Denver

DENVER, -- Denver Mayor Michael Hancock issued the following news:

Mayor Michael B. Hancock and a delegation of city and state officials today are embarking on an economic development, tourism and air service mission to London, returning to Denver aboard Norwegian's inaugural flight from London/Gatwick on .

The mission will provide local officials a firsthand look at current efforts underway to drive economic development, tourism and international air service. The delegation will focus on increasing international business with London, attracting foreign direct investment into Colorado, improving tourism between Colorado and London, and enhancing security at airports. The mission will include meetings with London officials and cultural and business leaders.

Highlights of the trip include learning about London's transportation system and security of Heathrow Airport and strengthening business, trade and tourism relations with London businesses. Major events include the Mayor opening the London Stock Exchange, the third-largest stock exchange in the world, and celebrating Norwegian's inaugural nonstop flight to Denver.

Norwegian's new nonstop flight to London/Gatwick will generate an estimated 655 new jobs and more than $75 million in annual economic impact to the State of Colorado. Nearly 80 percent of this impact will be due to new visitors to Colorado.

Representatives from Denver International Airport (DEN), the Denver Police Department (DPD), Colorado Tourism Office, Denver Office of Economic Development, VISIT Denver and the UK Consulate in Denver will participate in the mission.

Itinerary:

Upon arriving, economic development officials will meet with London & Partners, the official promotional agency for the Mayor of London, to learn more about London's economic contributions and their priorities from an international perspective.



The highlight of the day is a Friends of Denver meeting sponsored by HMS Host, VISIT Denver and the Colorado Tourism Office. The meeting will include over 200 attendees with ties to Colorado through travel, tourism, business and education, and is designed to further enhance ties with Colorado.

The delegation will receive a briefing from officials with the Policy Exchange organization regarding the economic and trade impacts of Brexit.

In the afternoon, Mayor Hancock, supported by members of the delegation, will give a presentation to the Confederation of British Industry's International Advisory to educate them about Denver and our booming economy to enhance Denver's business ties with London.

In addition, members of the delegation from the Denver Police Department will receive a security tour and briefing from Gatwick Airport representatives.

The Mayor will complete the day with a dinner meeting with the Mayor of Bristol. Much like Denver, Bristol is a city focused on innovation and elevating its status as a global city. Mayor Hancock will have an opportunity to highlight the similarities, and share best practices.

Mayor Hancock will start the day by opening the London Stock Exchange, the third-largest stock exchange in the world.

Later in the morning, Mayor Hancock and delegation members from VISIT Denver and the Colorado Tourism Office will participate in a tourism briefing to showcase Denver and Colorado as an exciting and popular tourism destination. The briefing will be attended by London reporters who work for various trade publications.

In the afternoon, members of the delegation, including officials from DEN and DPD, will receive security briefings and meet with officials at Heathrow Airport, as well as tour the Airport Operations Centre to learn best practices about airport security in the UK.

To wrap up the day, Mayor Hancock will meet with the head of London for Transport's Strategy and Outcome Planning, Surface Transportation, to gain insight into how they are enhancing UK's transportation and mobility system, and what practices might apply in Denver.

The day will begin early with Mayor Hancock participating in an event at Gatwick Airport celebrating Norwegian's inaugural nonstop flight to Denver. Following the event, the Mayor and Denver delegation will take the inaugural flight to Denver.

Upon arriving in Denver, Mayor Hancock and airport CEO Kim Day will join Norwegian officials for an event at Denver International Airport celebrating Norwegian's first nonstop flight from Denver to London/Gatwick.
