Mexico contains much coveted ground for the mining industry. The country is a top 10 producer of various resources and minerals, such as gold and salt. The country’s largest commodity is silver – in fact, it’s the largest producer of silver in the world. Due to Mexico’s large land mass, the country still contains unexploited mineral reserves. Kootenay Silver Inc (KTN:CA) ,a mineral discovery and development company, has staked its claim in a prospect that has the potential to become one of the richest pure silver plays seen in Mexico in the past decade.
Kootenayhas received positive results from preliminary metallurgy tests conducted on samples from the company's La Negra silver discovery in Sonora, Mexico. An analysis report estimated the potential resource at over 65 million ounces of silver.
"We are very pleased to be able to report such excellent results from our initial metallurgical test work on La Negra,” said James McDonald, President and CEO of Kootenay. “These preliminary results indicate that high silver recoveries should be achievable by simple, cost effective milling and extraction methods and they clearly reinforce La Negra's potential to evolve into a low-cost, open pittable silver resource. This potential is further underscored by drill results to date on La Negra that have consistently returned multiple wide intersections of mineralization, starting at surface and remaining open along strike and to depth, at the kind of silver grades that are currently being mined by open pit methods in Mexico."
Kootenay Plans Phase III Based on Favorable Results
The mission of the preliminary metallurgy tests was to determine whether silver found at La Negra could be recovered through common extraction methods. The program would also provide a recovery rate estimate. Kootenay, based on the positive test results, has made plans to conduct a Phase III drill program on La Negra to further delineate the extent of mineralization prior to completing a maiden NI 43-101 resource estimate.
With 100% ownership of the LA Negra site, Kootenay is set to move forward with drilling and development plans. The La Negra discovery has made Kootenay a major player in the silver mining industry and proves a positive development for overall growth.
