International Women's Day Spotlight: Naked Brands CEO Carole Hochman

Today is International Women’s Day, with #PledgeForParity as this year’s theme. While the goal of this significant day is to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women, this year’s theme encourages both men and women, as well put by IWD’s official website, to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias. In an effort to contribute to this important movement, I wanted to spotlight a woman who is a pioneer in the business world, and who is, currently, the head of a company that promotes individuality and the embracing of one’s natural self. That woman is Carole Hochman, CEO of Naked Brands (NAKD).

Hochman is one of the most influential woman in the intimate apparel and sleepwear market. The Carole Hochman Design Group, which owns the online outlet for women's intimate apparel, OnGossamer, has licenses to a number of high-end intimate brands, including Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren (RL), and Betsey Johnson. Acquired by Komar in 2010, The Carole Hochman Group aims to provide the feeling of comfort to women, whatever her age, shape, or lifestyle. Hochman, with over 30 years of experience, brought this same mantra to Naked Brands when she joined the company’s leadership team.

Naked Brand is an innovative inner fashion and lifestyle brand that is furthering their mission in creating a new standard for how products worn close to the skin fit, feel and function. Recently, the company launched its highly anticipated women's intimate apparel collection. Designed by Hochman, Naked's first collection of women's intimates provides effortless comfort and a "light as air" fit, the famous signatures of a Hochman design.

"My entire career has been focused around women's intimate apparel and I know women want to feel comfortable and sexy in their underwear," said Hochman. "Naked's intimates address the needs of the modern woman, making comfort and quality our primary focus with contemporary silhouettes and beautiful fabrication to create garments that we believe would make any woman feel sexy and confident. We are so excited to make these available to customers."

Since taking over as CEO, Naked Brands has reported a number of operational milestones in recent months. The company signed a milestone endorsement and partnership agreement with NBA Miami HEAT Champion Dwyane Wade, who is also a member of the company's advisory board, and is Creative Director for the Wade X Naked collection of men's innerwear slated to launch in 2016. In November 2015, also in partnership with Wade, announced the launch of The Naked Truth campaign, a socially driven campaign focused on freedom and authenticity. Under Hochman’s leadership, Naked Brands plans to expand into other apparel and product categories to further their positive message and position the company at the forefront of a $110 billion industry.

The next generation of Hochman's, Winfrey's, McCoy’s and Comstock’s begins with the simple message of being true to themselves and comfortable in their own skin. It’s this message that instills confidence, individuality and leadership skills. "We can collectively help women advance equal to their numbers and realize the limitless potential they offer economies the world over,” stated by the IWD website. “We have urgent work to do. Are you ready to accelerate gender parity?”
