HomeAway Wows the Vacation Lodging Market With A Once-In-A-Lifetime Giveaway

Vacations are supposed to be escapes from the daily grind; and, if all goes well, one is supposed to return refreshed and relaxed. However, it can be argued that nothing is worse than a vacation, whether in the planning or travel stages, gone awry. While there are a number of services available meant to ease the stress of both planning and travel, there can be major hiccups. For instance, hotel alternatives, such as AirBnb, offer more affordable accommodations; however, one may have to share their vacation space with a stranger, deal with less than cooperative neighbors, or, as a recent discrimination lawsuit points out, may have problems booking a space to begin with. HomeAway, a vacation rental marketplace, aims to offer an unforgettable getaway experience by following two concepts: exclusivity and privacy.

HomeAway believes that vacations have no business being shared; and, the Austin-based company has made quite the splash in the short-term vacation rental market. According to its official website, “owners and property managers offer an extensive selection of vacation homes that provide travelers with memorable experiences and benefits, including more room to relax and added privacy, for less than the cost of traditional hotel accommodations.”

Recently, the company announced a once-in-a lifetime opportunity with a simple question: “What would you do if the HomeAway Eiffel Tower Apartment was all yours for a night?” A contest launched earlier this month, HomeAway is giving four lucky winners and their guests a chance to stay overnight in HomeAway’s Eiffel Tower Apartment.

Furthermore, HomeAway strives to make the platform desirable for both travelers and property owners, this past April, the company announced reduced pricing for owners and managers, along with plans to improve search functionality, making it easier for travelers to find vacation properties that best suit their needs. As of June 11, HomeAway will implement the following changes:

  • Offer one annual subscription, which will reduce the cost to $349 for subscribers.
  • Decrease the pay-per-booking option from 10 percent to 8 percent.
  • Search results will be based on the company’s existing Best Match system

"We're regularly speaking with travelers to better understand their preferences, and many of them prefer to book accommodations online," said Karen Fuller, HomeAway's senior director of global research. "As a result, HomeAway has made significant improvements to provide peace of mind and the e-commerce experience that consumers have come to expect when booking with a major travel site."

Even an industry leader still not only has room for improvement; but can continue to surprise and “wow” its customers. HomeAway’s Paris giveaway and platform updates positions the company for possible continued growth and customer loyalty.
