Alphabet's Google said its political action committee won’t fund members of the U.S. Congress who voted against certifying results of the 2020 presidential election, according to reports.
The decision stems from a review of its policies following the deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol earlier this month, the tech giant told CNBC.
“After the disturbing events at the Capitol, NetPAC paused all contributions while undertaking a review,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement to CNBC. “Following that review, the NetPAC board has decided that it will not be making any contributions this cycle to any member of Congress who voted against certification of the election results.”
Google is one of several major companies that paused or pulled political donations after Jan. 6, when pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol while Congress was in session to certify President Joe Biden as the election’s winner.
Amazon, Facebook, AT&T, Walt Disney Company, Nike, Verizon and Microsoft have made similar moves.
