Family Day a Day to Focus on our Tribe

Tina Hayes |

The term ‘Family Day’ for many people does mean much more than a long weekend in February. Family is a word that for many people does not bring to mind happy memories. For whatever reason, fate did not bless them with a wonderful, solid family of origin. For those people, it may be a day that they would rather not be reminded of the people that their bloodline has tied them to. Family, however, is more than blood. Family is the inner circle that we choose for ourselves. The people that we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with, to share our joys and our sorrows… those are our family. Even if we were raised in a family of loving, caring people, sometimes the Universe brings those across our path that find their way into both our hearts and into our family. The very word family can be translated to mean community, global village or tribe. The history of the famous proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ came from the tribes of Africa. Modern society has separated us into tiny boxes, isolated from one another and the benefits of tribal living. Family Day is a day for us to focus on our tribe and enjoy some much needed time with them. So find your tribe and love them hard!
