Personal Income came in slightly weaker than expected in July rising by 0.3%, while spending rose a slightly more than expected 0.8% at the expense of a reduced savings rate. Pending Home Sales fell 1.3% in July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded significantly higher and moved above its August 17th high at 11,529.67 in the final half hour of trading. The August 9th low was 10,604.07. The NASDAQ opened at 2510.13 and traded above its August 15th high at 2555.20 in the final half hour of trading. The August 9th low was 2331.65.

Asian stocks traded higher on Monday with the Nikkei 225 up 0.61% to 8,851 and the Hang Seng rebounding by 1.44% to 19,865. In Europe, the UK market was closed and the other averages moved higher with the DAX surging 2.39% to 5,670 and the CAC 40 jumping 2.16% to 3,154. The yield on the 10-Year US Treasury rose from 2.190 to 2.298 as the flight to quality eased. Gold continued to recover from last Thursday’s low at $1705.4 the Troy ounce trading as high as $1841.5 on Monday morning then tumbled to a day’s low at $1778.1 into the final hour of trading. Crude oil traded up from $85.11 per barrel to $87.62 staying above its 200-week simple moving average at $83.85. The euro versus the U.S. dollar traded up from 1.4469 to 1.4547.

The FDA has approved Pfizer’s (PFE) Crizotinib, which shrinks tumors in lung-cancer patients with a rare genetic abnormality. Crizotinib is the latest treatment using molecular targeting to win rapid approval from the agency, and patients will be identified with a test made by Abbott Laboratories (ABT).
