Asian stocks were lower on Tuesday. The Nikkei 225 closed at 8,975 – down 0.36%. The Hang Seng closed at 21,944 – down 0.28%. European exchanges were higher on Tuesday. The FTSE 100 ended the day at 5,885 – up 0.79%. The DAX ended the day at 7,378 – up 0.70%. The CAC 40 ended the day at 3,479 – up 0.87%.

The yield on the 10-Year US Treasury rose from 1.684% to 1.751% versus the 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages at 1.705% and 1.789%. Comex gold rebounded from $1683.5 the Troy ounce to $1720.9 still between the 200-day and 50-day simple moving averages at $1666.0 and $1737.7. Nymex crude oil rebounded from to $85.42 per barrel to $89.22 still below its 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages at $91.67 and $94.86. The euro versus the dollar declined to 1.2767 then rose to 1.2826 testing the 200-day simple moving average at 1.2826.

Amgen (AMGN) and Pfizer (PFE) drugs performed well in mid-stage trials, while Sanofi (SNY) and partner Regeneron (REGN) announced a massive Phase III trial for their treatment. Wright Medical Group (WMGI) beat estimates by 6 cents with revenue in-line with estimates. CardioNet (BEAT) beat estimates by a penny and revenue by $0.5M. Skilled Healthcare (SKH) beat estimates by a penny, while missing revenue by $2M. Covance (CVD) narrowed its EPS estimate to between $2.65 to $2.70 (down from prior estimates of $2.50 to $2.70). Myriad Genetics (MYGN) beat estimates by 4 cents and revenue by $4M. Express Scripts (ESRX) beat estimates by 3 cents, while missing revenue by $400M. Annaly Capital (NLY) reported Q3 EPS of $0.45. Fidelity National Financial (FNF) beat estimates by 49 cents and revenue by $300M. Kite Realty (KRG) is launched with a Buy at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch. Apartment Investment & Management (AIV) is upgraded to Market Perform from Underperform with Wells Fargo. Home Properties (HME) gets hoisted to Buy from Neutral at Compass Point. Credit Suisse (CS) is upgraded to Equal Weight from Underweight at Barclays, which lifts UBS AG (UBS) to Overweight from Underweight. Information Technology

THQ Inc. (THQI) posted a second-quarter loss of $21 million, or $3.06 a share, for Q2 (compared with a loss of $92.4 million, or $13.52 a share, a year earlier). Sales declined 26 percent to $107.4 million. The company also announced it hired Centerview Partners LLC to evaluate its options and raise cash. ServiceSource International (SREV) beat estimates by a penny, but the company issued weaker than expected Q4 guidance of a loss of 1-2 cents per share (versus EPS estimates of 4 cents). A federal judge has thrown out an Apple (AAPL) lawsuit against Motorola Mobility (GOOG) with prejudice over the latter's alleged abuse of standards-essential patents in licensing talks. Microsoft (MSFT) and the FTC are also involved in possible or actual suits against Motorola over the matter. Apple (AAPL) is thinking of abandoning the use of Intel's (INTC) CPUs in its Mac computers in favor of internally-developed ARM-based (ARMH) processors, such as the ones that power its iOS hardware. AOL (AOL) beat estimates by 5 cents and revenue by $10M. Zebra Technologies (ZBRA) beat estimates by 5 cents and revenue by $4M. Rudolph Technologies (RTEC) beat estimates by 2 cents and revenue by 2.2M. Jive Software (JIVE) beat estimates by 2 cents with revenue in-line with estimates. The company’s Q4 guidance is for revenue of $30M-$31.5M and EPS of -$0.15 to -$0.17 (versus consensus of $31.1M and -$0.09). Fortinet (FTNT) is an Outperform at FBR Capital. Palo Alto Networks (PANW) is a Perform at FBR Capital. Peregrine Semiconductor (PSMI) is begun with a Buy at Canaccord. Workday (WDAY) is an Equal-Weight at Morgan Stanley and an Outperform with Wells Fargo. Foxconn International (FXCNY) is raised to Buy from Hold at Jefferies.
