Culp Inc (CFI): From Regional Supplier to Global Partner

When testing out a mattress or picking out a set of new office furniture, often times, consumers only recognize the final product. While style and function are strong selling points, other qualities like durability, comfort and stability are undoubtedly considered. These qualities are often present due to the materials and construction required to get the piece from warehouse to showroom. Culp Inc (CFI), a mattress and furniture materials company, is one organization that has been making it possible for consumer to not only get a good night sleep; but, also making their living and work quarters easy on the eyes.

Headquartered in High Point, North Carolina, Culp offers, among other materials, mattress fabrics and sewn covers used for covering mattresses and box springs in the U.S. and abroad. Currently, the company operates in two segments:

  • Mattress Fabrics, which provides woven jacquard, knitted, and converted fabrics that is used in the production of various bedding products.
  • Upholstery Fabrics, which provides, among other materials, jacquard woven fabrics, velvets, knitted fabrics, and polyurethane fabrics that is used in the creation of sofas, chairs, sectionals, and other commercial and residential furniture pieces.

Since its founding in 1972 originally as a regional supplier, the company as expanded its reach internationally, acting as a global partner to a number of clients. Culp has also publicly stated its commitment to conducting environmentally conscious operations. According to their official website, some of its environmental initiatives include:

  • Recycling of Cardboard/Plastics/Metal/Wood
  • Water Recycling
  • Energy Savings Projects
  • Repurposing of Yarn and Fabric Waste

The company is under the leadership of President and CEO Franklin N. Saxon. A member of its leadership team since 1983, Culp’s Board of Directors appointed Saxon as president and CEO of the Company in 2007.
