Boris vs. NYC 36-Hour Challenge to Take Citibike 400 Miles for Charity

Austin, TX (PRWEB) July 02, 2014 Last summer, Rob Holden, Ian Laurie and Matt Winstone rented a Boris bike (bike share) in London, drove it 700 miles to the base of Mount Ventoux in Southern France, rode it to the peak and returned it to its dock within 24 hours to avoid the late fee. The trip raised more than $40,000 for the UK's Macmillan Cancer Support. This summer, the three friends have decided to take the challenge to New York City in the Boris vs. NYC 36-Hour Challenge. In 36 hours, they fly from London, drive a Citibike 400 miles to New Hampshire's Mount Washington, ride up the 7.5-mile mountain, return the bike and fly home to London all in a day and a half to benefit the LIVESTRONG Foundation in its mission to improve the lives of people affected by cancer now. Holden, Laurie and Winstone decided to take up the task after a leisurely bike ride in London wondering how they could raise money for Macmillan and how far they could go with a Boris bike and return it in time. Holden dedicated the trip to his father, who was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, and to the 32 million survivors around the globe. "Rob's dad is just a catalyst. After seeing firsthand the impact we could make from our first challenge, we all realized that we wanted to help as much as we could," Winstone said. "With the second ride in America we hope to spread the LIVESTRONG mission far and wide to get help to as many patients and survivors as we can."
