Aqua Metals, Inc. (AQMS) and Interstate Batteries Agree on Deal

Aqua Metals, Inc. (AQMS) announced a deal with Interstate Batteries that will supply Aqua Metals with batteries as feedstock for its patent-pending technology that will cleanly recycle lead-acid batteries. AQMS is trading up more than 12% at the time of writing.

Interstate Batteries CEO Scott Miller was very vocal about how valuable Aqua Metals technology is for Interstate, America’s largest battery distributor and recycler. He said, “Interstate Batteries seeks out innovation, pursues opportunities and invests in the technology we need to succeed not just today, but also tomorrow… Our focus is on the future of our industry and continued growth. Aqua Metals’ breakthrough technology is a promising new way for recycling lead-acid batteries.”

Interstate will make a $10 million investment in Aqua Metals and will start Aqua Metal’s first AquaRefinery, in Nevada’s Tahoe-Reno Industrial Complex. The refinery will give a platform to showcase Aqua Metal’s patent-pending Aquarefining process, which allows lead-acid batteries to be recycled without pollution and produces 100% yield. Since, Interstate recycles more batteries than it sells, this technology could scale the business model. “With its forward-thinking environmental goals, broad distribution network and strong brand name, Interstate Batteries is an ideal partner for us as we scale our business,” said Dr. Stephen Clarke, chairman and CEO of Aqua Metals, in the press release. “As we grow, we are able to create a more sustainable ecosystem for lead as a power source. We look forward to growing our partnership with Interstate Batteries.”
