2013’s Most Satisfying Jobs for Women

As more and more women are diving head first into the job market, the hunt for the best and most fulfilling jobs is becoming more competitive then ever. With 25% more women then men graduating from college in 2013, women are hitting the ground running with their degrees to back them. In 2012, President Obama commented on this shift in women’s education in reference to the increase of women graduates and the success of Title IX when saying, “This is a great accomplishment—not just for one sport or one college or even just for women but for America”.

As recent college graduates are searching for the career of their dreams there are many different variables to consider. Though pay is a major factor for most people when deciding which jobs that they are going to apply for and accept, enjoying the work that they do is important was well. Laurence Shatkin Ph.D. and author of Best Jobs for the 21st Century found that the jobs that women find to be the most satisfying are not always the jobs that make the most money. After surveying women across America from all age groups the top 5 most satisfying jobs were discovered.

Top Five Most Satisfying Jobs for Women in 2013 

1. Top Level Managers: With more and more women rising in the ranks of businesses everyday, its should come as no surprise that one of the most satisfying jobs is being a top level manager. With a satisfaction rate of 65 percent theses women are making on average $104,000 a year with a projected growth rate of 5 percent. 

2. Diagnosing Doctors: This includes women who are in the fields of dentistry, optometry and physicians. It was found that overall women who hold these jobs have a satisfaction rate of 60 percent. Not only are these women helping out fellow Americans by keeping our teeth, eyes and bodies strong and healthy, but they enjoy doing it. As of 2013 the median salary for was around $121,000 and a projected industry growth of around 27 percent by 2020.  

3. Medical Scientists: This career, excluding those who are also practitioners, has a 56 percent satisfaction rate with an average annual salary of around $76,000. As of 2013 there were more then 4,000 openings in this innovative field with a projected growth of 36 percent by 2020.

4. Lawyers and Judges: Many women seek to go into the field of law for a myriad of reason and with a satisfaction rate of around 55 percent they may not be wrong. The average annual salary for those women who choose to dive into the letter of the law is around $112,000 a year with a projected growth rate of 10 percent by 2020.  

5. Health Professionals: This field includes Registered Nurses, Pharmacists and Dieticians. With the median salary being around $70,000 annually, it is a female dominated work sector with around 141,000 current openings as of the beginning of 2013. Women who choose these career paths have around a 52 percent satisfaction rate and a projected industry growth of 26 percent by 2020.
