10 Earth Day Investment Ideas to Keep Green Investor in the Black

Henry Truc  |

Earth Day is upon us once again. Since 1970, each year on April 22, the world takes the day to celebrate, support and appreciate the environment. Much like they say about Valentine’s Day, however, any environmentalist who waits for Earth Day to treat their planet like a queen is failing 364 days a year—or something like that.

Still, with the holiday being celebrated in more than 193 countries each year, and support of the environmental protection movement as high as it has ever been—as evidenced by the expected signing of the Paris Agreement by over 155 countries today—it’s never been clearer that going green is winning out anyway you look at it—politically, culturally, and even financially. According to Bloomberg, a record $329 billion in global capital investments went into the green sector in 2015, more than doubling what went to fossil fuels.

But it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows for these emerging industries either. The recent bankruptcy of SunEdison (SUNE) is potent reminder that the clean energy sector—like any sector—carries risk, especially on an individual company level. Fortunately, risk-averse investors that want to put their money where their mouths are can look to ETFs that track specific groups in the clean energy sector. Going green by going green—I know, let me finish—has never been easier.

Here are 10 clean energy ETFs ranked by performance over the past quarter according to Finviz’s data:
