The purpose of the workshop to be hosted by the Prelude Artists Acting for Stage and Screen Academy is to give parents the tools and proper information they need so that when they meet with people who want to work with their kids, they know what questions to ask and they know what fees and services are acceptable and which are not.

Since the dawn of YouTube, and reality TV shows like, Canadas Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and The X Factor, parents and kids alike have been obsessed with instant stardom. It is an obsession that is polluting performing arts academies globally.

There is a lot of bad information being circulated, exclaimed Doug Sloan.

These kids and parents see these performers make it seemingly overnight and they expect things to be handed over to their kids on a silver platter, its just not realistic," added Christine Berry of Calgary.

Christine and her daughter, Angelique have been working with Doug Sloan and John Stevens for many years now and she knows firsthand what it takes to have successful child in the industry.

Parents need to be the first line of defense to protect their kids from unscrupulous companies that prey on the hopes and dreams of young people," said John Stevens, an accomplished performer, who now co-owns Talent INC Canada with his partner, Doug Sloan.

Doug and John first met Christine and Angelique in 2009, and were immediately impressed by the fact that Angelique had not only the desire to be in the industry, but she also had the determination. She takes direction and feedback well, and is very driven according to Sloan and Stevens. Ania is amazed to see how far Angelique has come in just a few short years of training with her.

The workshop is designed for parents and performers at all stages of their career and is completely interactive. Parents get to see their child work with Mr. Stevens who is a master level coach with a long list of now celebrity clients. Each performer will receive critiques from both Mr. Stevens and Mr. Sloan as well as learn about the business side of acting.

A handful of young performers and their families will be invited to attend a training boot camp for actors in Toronto, where talent will then have the opportunity to not only further their education in the arts, but they will also have the opportunity to network with some of Canadas top casting directors, Directors, Producers, and Talent Agents. There will be a short list of top agencies from NY and LA in attendance as well who primarily seek high fashion models for the fashion industry where it is easier to get sponsorship across borders.

ABOUT PRELUDE ARTISTS

Ania Danylo, The Owner of Prelude Artists has been working in theatre as an actor, director, writer, and instructor for over 20 years. Her directorial credits include "The Diary of Anne Frank", "Medea", "Pope Joan", Strindberg's "Easter", and a number of family-oriented original scripts. A teacher of acting, speech arts, and music programs, she is the recipient of several acting awards and has been involved in award-winning theatrical projects. Through her coaching, several of her students have claimed awards in their own right for their performances.

Ania has a BFA in Theatre and is currently completing both a licentiate an ARCT in Speech Arts and Drama.
