QUEENSLAND, Australia (PRWEB) July 02, 2012

In an episode of the Emmy award-winning television show, No Reservations, Anthony Bourdain traveled to Dubai, dining with the Emirates and experiencing what it is like to live the life of the rich and super rich. In Richard Plants fifth book, Lifes a Burj: Living high in Dubai (published by iUniverse), Plant discusses the delights and de-lows behind the glitz, glamour and faade of the UAE state.

Burj in Dubai means tower the two most recognizable being the Burj Al Khalifa, the highest building in the world which also appeared in the film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and the Burj Al Arab, located on a nearby island. Both are hotels, have associated shopping malls are must-visits for any traveler arriving in the area.

In his usual humorous and eclectic style, Plant tells the true story of Katie and Rex (the authors alter-ego) who travel to Dubai to spend Christmas with family.

An excerpt from Lifes a Burj:

And so the tone was set for Katie and Rex to enjoy their first Arabian desert feast and entertainment under the stars at Al Hadheerah restaurant @ Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa , about 15km out of Dubai in the sand. It was Christmas Eve in a Muslim country. Ex pats crowded the place. Apart from staff and performers there were no obvious Emerati, but the atmosphere was distinctly Middle East. The group was confused by the temperature. It was quite cold. Bloody freezing, shivered Rex who suddenly understood why their hosts had insisted on them bringing some warm clothing. The walkway into the venue was tricky. The site is not visible from the road; it is built into the dunes forming a natural amphitheatre which opens up from a carpet covered walkway put down in the vain hope that sand would not get into open shoes or sandals.

Lifes a Burj provides readers with an insightful look at what it is like to live in Dubai today, told through Plants own life experiences.
