Telvent GIT wins contract from Abengoa to provide solar field control system
Comtex News NetworkDec 10, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --Telvent GIT, S.A., a real-time IT solutions and information provider, has received a contract from Abengoa to provide the distributed control system, or DCS, and solar field control system for its Mojave Solar Project, a concentrated solar power plant located near Barstow, California.
Telvent solutions will provide Abengoa, a technology solutions provider for the energy and environment sectors, with the precise and adaptable tools to meet the needs of its concentrated solar power plant and parabolic troughs.
The solar field control system will coordinate the plant mirrors' movement in precise accordance with the sun's angle. Concurrently, the system will manage communications between the controllers and the incoming field data. Giving Abengoa operators an interface to review information from the field, the DCS will help streamline plant operations while maximizing efficiency and energy output.
According to Telvent's Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, "For the last decade, Telvent has worked closely with Abengoa on all of its solar energy projects. Our adaptable solutions help them operate some of the cleanest and largest power plants in the world, providing them with support and security for critical infrastructure. We are proud to continue our partnership with them and expand our leadership in the solar sector."
The Mojave Solar Project will have the capacity to serve 54,000 homes when it comes online in 2014.
