Aug. 21--Avantor names Steitz CEO; Gupta remains chairman
Center Valley chemical-maker Avantor Performance Materials announced a new CEO on Monday.
John M. Steitz, 54, has been named the new president and chief executive officer of the company, which relocated its headquarters and 180 workers from New Jersey to the Stabler Corporate Center in Upper Saucon Township last year.
Avantor, previously known as Mallinckrodt Baker, produces chemicals for pharmaceuticals, diagnostics such as blood tests, and electronics such as flat-panel displays and solar cells. Avantor is owned by an affiliate of the private equity firm New Mountain Capital, based in Poland.
Steitz assumes the leadership role from Rajiv L. Gupta, who will remain chairman of the board.
Steitz holds an MBA from Southern Illinois University and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri.
He has more than 30 years' experience in the field of specialty chemical manufacturing, officials said. Most recently, he served as president and chief operating officer at Albemarle Corp., a global chemical manufacturer.
