BRIEF: A record 1,432 rigs are seeking oil [Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas]
By Jim Fuquay, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, TexasMcClatchy-Tribune Information ServicesAug. 11--Active drilling rigs in the U.S. rose by one this week to 1,931, helped by a record 1,432 rigs seeking oil, Baker Hughes Inc. said.
Rigs seeking gas dipped to 495, with four listed as miscellaneous. A year ago, Baker Hughes listed 1,959 rigs.
In the Barnett Shale, 48 rigs were active, up seven from a week earlier, RigData said. Wise and Montague counties led with nine each, followed by Jack with eight and Tarrant with seven.
