Turkey : TURKEY : GE implements 10MW wind power project [TendersInfo (India)]

GE Energy Financial Services has completed the implementation of a new wind farm, the Karadag Wind Power Plant in the city of Izmir, Turkey. Implementation was carried out through the GE unit's joint venture with GAMA Holding, GAMA Enerji.

The joint venture's second project in Turkey, the 10MW wind farm, using four 2.5MW GE turbines commenced production of electricity on 4 July 2012. Earlier, in March 2011, GAMA Enerji's other project, the 22.5-megawatt Sares wind farm, using nine 2.5-megawatt GE turbines, started commercial operations.

Development of these projects were done as part of GE's ecomagination initiative and its move to expand renewable energy in Turkey.

In order to meet Turkey's goal of generating 30% of its energy from renewables by 2023, Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources approved the commercial operation of the Karadag wind farm.

The Karadag and Sares wind farms are expected to produce energy which would be sufficient to power 59,000 average Turkish homes and avoid 80,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
