United Kingdom : DONG ENERGY and SIEMENS sign a deal for 300 wind turbine [TendersInfo (India)]Jahara92Al Bawaba Ltd.
Dong Energy and Siemens have inked a deal for the delivery of around 300 turbines with a capacity of 1,800 megawatts (MW).
It is stated that the agreement is based on the new SWT-6.0-154 direct drive wind turbine which will be installed in UK offshore projects between 2014 and 2017.
Michael Suess, member of the Managing Board at Siemens AG and CEO of the Energy Sector said, Offshore wind energy has huge potential. Offshore wind conditions are strong and stable enabling an energy yield which can be about 40 percent higher than onshore. The United Kingdom, Denmark and Germany in particular are counting on the future of offshore wind energy. We are pleased that our long-term customer DONG Energy has chosen the latest generation of our wind turbines. Together we are working to further reduce the levelized costs for this environmentally-friendly form of power generation.
Carsten Krogsgaard Thomsen, acting CEO of DONG Energy said, The agreement will enable DONG Energy to install a significantly larger and more efficient wind turbine from 2014 compared to what we know today. The agreement is a key element of DONG Energy's objective to significantly expand offshore wind and strengthen our position as market leader within offshore wind. For DONG Energy, this is an important step towards further industrialization and will contribute to the enhanced competitiveness of offshore wind.
Dong will have to pay a cancellation fee in the event of the cancellation of projects comprised by the agreement.
