Hitachi to begin data center services in S. Korea

TOKYO, July 18 -- (Kyodo) _ Hitachi Ltd. said Wednesday it will begin offering data center services the following day in South Korea, mainly to Japanese companies operating in the country.

The services, such as data backup and storage, will be delivered in cooperation with major South Korean technology firm LG CNS and LG Hitachi Ltd., the Hitachi group's information technology sales arm in South Korea.

The data centers operated by LG CNS in South Korea and Hitachi in Japan will be linked to this end.

Hitachi aims to use the deal with the South Korean partner as a springboard for implementing its plan to offer data center services in several dozen locations mainly in Asia within two years.
