July 08--YAKIMA, Wash. -- Five people were hospitalized after a head-on collision Saturday morning near Konnowac Pass Road, the Washington State Patrol said.
Troopers said 18-year-old Tyler Schademan of Zillah was eastbound on the Yakima Valley Highway in a Ford pickup at 3:28 a.m., when he crossed the centerline, striking a Toyota driven by Felisa Gonzalez, 18, of Wapato. Gonzalez and her passenger, 21-year-old Mayra Gonzalez of Wapato were taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center.
Mayra Gonzalez is in stable condition, hospital officials said. Felisa Gonzalez was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after surgery, a nursing supervisor at Regional said. She is in serious condition, according to a Harborview nursing supervisor.
Also hospitalized were Schademan and his passengers, Jerry Roybal, 24, and Zachary Moritzky, 21, both of Zillah, troopers said.
Schademan and Roybal are in critical condition at Regional, a nursing supervisor said. But the supervisor had no record of Moritzky being at the hospital.
All the drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts; their vehicles were totaled, the State Patrol said. Charges for driving under the influence of alcohol are pending.
