July 06--Montgomery Bank & Trust in Ailey became the latest Georgia bank to fail when state agents shut it down Friday.
Ameris Bank in Moultrie will assume all of the failed bank's deposits under an agreement reached with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the FDIC said Friday.
The two branches of Montgomery Bank & Trust will reopen Monday as branches of Ameris Bank, and depositors of Montgomery Bank will automatically become depositors of Ameris. Customers should continue to use their existing branch until they receive notice from Ameris that its other branches can process their accounts.
As of March 31, Montgomery Bank & Trust had about $173.6 million in total assets and $164.4 million in total deposits.
Customers with questions should call the FDIC toll-free at (800) 640-2693.
